Purple Heart Ceremony

This is a photo of a purple heart award ceremony, held at the unit which received, by far, the most purple hearts.

The other is a close up of the soldiers at the ceremony. I wonder what's going through their minds?

Fellow soldiers who were never going to make it back home?, Thanking god that they made it through whatever situation that gave them the purple heart?, Counting the days until they get back home?, Wondering if it is really worth the sacrifice? ... I could go on and on. What I do know is that I will never be in their boots, but I thank god there are soldiers like them and yourself that are willing to 'stand & defend' & I'm not even an American. THANK YOU!

Soldiers don't need ceremonies or memorials to be reminded to think.

They're probably amazed at how long some people can speak, and are wondering how much longer the ceremony is going to go on. Parades and ceremonies reall aren't all that for enlisted people. Officers really seem to like them, though.
